1989-1210. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 9. View of a monument; at lawn level is a semicircular part with a bronze plaque with printing on it;above is a footing flanked by two rocks which support a sculpted rectangular rock; on the rock at the bottom is a bronze ledge with a man's head ringed by a wreath of laurel; behind the bronze head and sculpted into the rock is narrow landscape topped by a bridge above. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "'in 1854.Chief engineer of the Sacramento Valley Railroad.' Mr. Judah died in 1863 from Panama fev contracted while enroute to New York, at the early age of 37. Mr. S.S. Montague carried to successful conclusion Mr. Judah plans.... Statue in front of present S.P. Depot."
