Christine Bangalan has been in the United States for about nine years now, coming from her hometown in the Philippines. Her immediate family decided to immigrate to the U.S. because the economy back home was not so great. Her father also wanted his children to be given the chance to get to know their grandparents in American before they died. Joy, as her friends, and other close ones call Christine, is striving to be a nurse. Her parents are pushing her to keep the stereotype of getting their children into the medical field. Additionally, being more American and more rebellious now than ever has by far made her journey to be more than she expected. "It has been great because of the choices that I have here…I feel very privileged to be living here at this point as there are more opportunities here." Joy has been involved in various activities she enjoys engaging with. Soon to be graduating from Overfelt High School, with the class of 2007, her future plans are to attend San Jose State University and one day get a master's degree in the medical field.
