Army of the Unemployed marched on Union Square in Jan. 1914 under leadership of W.A. Thorn. Thorn addressed the crowd from base of Dewey Monument. Demands were for an 8-hour day, $3.00 a day; S.F. Chronicle describes banner demanding 8 hours $3. being carried by procession.
