Photograph article dated April 28, 1960 partially reads, "Hard work and the desire to excell [sic] have paid off in big dividends for 14-year-old Darrell Smith of Reseda. The energetic youth is the proud possessor of the first "Youth Sportsmanship Award" presented by the management of the Reseda Bowl for his outstanding trampoline and bowling accomplishments. Darrell won this award despite what some might call a serious "handicap," the loss of his left leg in an automobile accident when he was a small boy."
