Artist Paul de Longpre´ (1855-1911) inspects some roses in an area of his gardens. The grounds, located on the west side of Cahuenga Blvd. at Hollywood Blvd., were obtained from a Mrs. Wilcox Beveridge after de Longpre´ moved to Los Angeles in 1889. The artist, born in Lyons, France, requested 65-foot-deep lots for an extensive flower garden, which at one time included 4,000 roses. The flowers were depicted in his famous paintings. The residence, art galleries and gardens were a popular tourist destination between the late 1890s and the late 1910s.
