Description
On back: "Philip Langense mother's bro. Originally from Germany. Studied carving in Switzerland. Came to America in sailing vessel to N. Y. to Ind. to N. Y. (sic)." Worked as sculptor & carver in San Jose. Carved wooden eagle above portico on Old City Hall, now in exhibit in Pacific Hotel. Formal portrait in what appears to be a Civil War uniform.
