Photograph caption dated May 30, 1963 reads, "Karen Nudell, 11, a sixth grade student at Wilbur Avenue School in Tarzana, receives congratulations from Stan Jones, honorary sheriff of Tarzana, after she was awarded first place in an essay contest sponsored by the Tarzana Chamber of Commerce. The contest on the subject of 'A Free Nation Needs Good Schools' was open to fourth through sixth graders at the community's elementary schools."
