Description
Boatswain’s Mate Third Class Michael H. Davis is a retired veteran who currently resides in the West Los Angeles Veterans Home of California. As the seventh of seven children, Mr. Davis, or “Blue” as known affectionately by his friends, volunteered for military service in the years of 1966 to 1970 in which he served three full tours of combat duty in Vietnam. Enlisting in the United States Navy, he rode aboard the USS Lynde Mc Cormick, a ship involved in numerous combat assignments as well as rescue missions while deployed to Vietnam. During his service he was at sea for three and a half years out of his four year military commitment. In the course of his military career, Mr. Davis was awarded the Navy Combat Service Ribbon three times, the Vietnam Service Ribbon three times, and the Unit Citation Ribbon once. Unfortunately, in his case, these awards came hand in hand with some emotional scars. “Blue” has been diagnosed with severe Post –traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Bi-polar Disorder, and Season Affective Disorder (SAD). However, maintaining a close support group within the Los Angeles Veterans Home, “Blue” has focused on helping others as well as being helped his self in terms of moral support. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, “Blue” worked as a Commercial Building Manager for Proctor and Gamble, as well as a Retail Assistant Manager for Wal-Mart. Currently retired, Mr. Davis now focuses his energy and time into volunteering, writing short stories, poems, speeches, and biographies of other people’s lives. For now, Blue is concentrating on publishing a book composed of either an assortment of poems or short stories as well as, “making the rest of his life the best of his life.” [Profile bio]
