Description
Two-piece, black velvet gown of bodice & skirt. A: Bodice - no collar. V neck opening lined by beaded, embroidered and trimmed scallop edge green silk covered lapels. 19" long decorative straps banding edges and accenting shapes and curves, 1 1/2" and 2" wide top stitched in 1/4" rows. Sleeves - Edwardian style narrow above elbow, puffs to outside of sleeve from elbow to wrist. Cuff band curves up to side ends. Self covered O ring in curve end. Giant puff ball of satin from outside elbow to wrist. Loose threads evidence of pulled ruching originally. Front - 26" long, pointed at hem opening. Back - 21" long, Bertha style yoke formed by bands over shoulders and lapels. High waisted. Pleated and banded center back peplum. 12 velvet covered, 1" wide O rings on ends of strap decorations. Inside - grosgrain waist cinch strap. 7 bands of boning across back. Bust bands for padding inside chest. Sweat pads in armpits. No lining remains. B: Skirt - may not match bodice but displays together. May be from late 1800's. 9 gore skirt with 8 corded qppliques. Woven rub band inside hem. Back pleats. Skirt has wide gores with back train. Has 8 corded appliques. C: Collar Band - velvet with 8 vertical stays - sheer fabric missing. Velvet top band with beading and green band with coral colored beads. D: Loose piece - chevron of black velvet (unknown location on garment). 2 hooks on left side, thread on right end.
