Honoring the memory of the late Father John J. Crowley, known far and wide as the “desert priest,” the huge lake to be formed by the Water Bureau’s new dam at Long Valley has been named Lake Crowley by the Board of Water and Power Commissioners, acting upon the recommendation of Chief Engineer and General Manager H. A. Van Norman. This tribute by the Board was in recognition of the valuable and unselfish service rendered by Father Crowley in furthering the good relations between the people of Owens Valley and Los Angeles, a program which benefited the communities of Inyo and Mono Counties, the City of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power.
