Description
Photograph of two Hopi maidens and a matron holding a baby, ca.1898. Both maidens wear their hair in large flat buns on each side of their heads. The one at left wears a traditional dress with a long-sleeved printed shirt, several necklaces, and earrings. The other wears the same traditional dress and fewer necklaces. The matron stands at right. Her hair down parted in the middle and plaited into two loose pigtails. She holds a naked baby on her lap. They stand before an adobe wall.
