"Spurlos versenkt" (sunk without a trace). On June 27, 1918, the Llandovery Castle - a British hospital ship plainly marked with a Red Cross - was torpedoed by the Hun. Determined to "sink without a trace" the U-boat commander shelled the lifeboats and shot nurses as they struggled in the water.
