Not long after Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted. Photograph caption dated January 21, 1944 reads, "Joan Barry smartly attired in a pert black suit with ruffled white blouse, is shown with attorney, John J. Irwin, after she testified before the Federal Grand Jury yesterday."
