Photograph caption dated September 9, 1961 reads, "Fond farewell - 1st Lt. Richard Johnson, 17441 Runnymede St., Van Nuys, receives a warm good-by from his family before leaving for Van Nuys Air National Guard base where he is directing the change-over to active duty of the 146th Air Transport Wing. With him are his wife, Jean; daughter, Carol, 12, and son, Wayne, 8. After Oct. 1, the families of the 1,200 men of the wing will be saying their good-bys to fulltime airmen - but, at least, on a daily basis since the unit will initially remain in Van Nuys with the men living at home."
