View 3: Several pedestrians and drivers scamper across the intersection at Hollywood and Vine. A Christmas tree decoration can be seen on one of the light standards, with newspapers resting on top of a crate below it. The Equitable Building (seen at left), designed by Aleck Curlett in 1929 in the Gothic Deco style, is located on the northwest corner at 6253 Hollywood Blvd. Beyond that is the Pantages Theatre (6233 Hollywood Blvd), built in 1930 by B. Marcus Priteca; it was home to the Academy Award ceremonies from 1949 to 1959. This stretch of the boulevard is known as Santa Claus Lane during the Christmas season, with numerous holiday decorations seen at regular intervals along this famous thoroughfare.
