Photograph was edited for publication purposes The caption refers to the Angeles National Forest fire that began on October 13, 1959 in the Dark Canyon area of the Angeles National Forest. 30 m.p.h. gusts were responsible for the swift and erratic spread of the fires that burned through La Can~ada Flintridge and Big Tujunga Canyon, and threatening a wide span of neighborhoods including Altadena, Pasadena, Palmdale, and La Crescenta.; Van Nuys Airport was one of the reloading stations used by water bombers during the 1959 Angeles National Forest fire. Photograph caption dated October 14, 1959 reads, "Capt. Frank R.
