Description
Carpenter’s book is about a former renegade American fighter pilot given command of the US Navy’s top secret submarine, Steel Albatross, to counter a dissident Soviet faction’s attempt to knock out every computer and electronic link in the US. The discussion begins with Carpenter covering how his experience as an astronaut and an aquanaut ground the novel around geopolitical and technological themes in addition to themes about respect and friendship. The majority of the discussion centers on Carpenter’s personal worldview and its impact on his writing.
