Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989, Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. Edna Kemp was a Senior Delineator for Caltrans District 12 in Orange County. In this interview she describes how after the earthquake she volunteered to work in San Francisco to get the design plans done so that Caltrans could get funding. Her major project was the base mapping for the new reconstruction of Cypress-Nimitz Expressway. She worked for the District 4 office for 3 ½ weeks, working 6 days a week until it was determined that she could go back to her regular duties in Orange County.
