Description
Members of the Alpha Kappa women's literary society at Pomona College. This photograph can also be found on page 138 of the 1932 Pomona College yearbook, "Metate", with this information: "Alpha Kappa, the first literary society established on the Pomona campus, admitted sixteen new members as a result of the 'try-outs' held in the fall of this school year. The aim of the society is to offer an opening into the best of modern literature in the form of reviews or the reaidng of plays. This is accomplished by means of bi-monthly meetings when it is customary to follow the reviews by a social hour in which the women discuss subjects arising from the critique they have just heard. For the latter, they take advantage of the cream of the productions of the long dramatic season in Los Angeles. A unique opportunity is thus afforded them to make contacts with girls in other classes, as well as for girls from the dormitory to become acquainted, through these meetings, with members from the outside houses". The women are identified as: to prow: Lorbeer, Morrish, Hitchcock, Ransom, Culbertson, Howard, Mayo, Blanchard, Bagley; middle row: Parsons, McFadden, Lynn, Abrams, Gibbs, Galbreth, Middleton; bottom row: Meyer, Graham, Anderson, Welch, Weisel, Bode, Drummond.
