Photograph caption dated April 30, 1981 reads, "a-15-year-old girl was killed and eight people were injured yesterday when a pick-up truck bound for the beach completely turned over on the Santa Monica Freeway, throwing 10 young passengers riding in the open back across all four lanes of the freeway. A California Highway Patrol officer, left, gestures to crying woman and children after the incident." The accident occurred near the Overland Avenue exit in the Los Angeles community of Palms.
