David Wallechinsky discusses his book, “The Knowledge Book.” He begins by discussing his own family and how neither of his parents went to college and instead were both autodidacts. He shares his memories growing up the child of parents who were working writers, in a home surrounded by books. Wallechinsky then discusses how his father, Irving Wallace researched his book “The Prize” and how his predictions for winners of the Nobel Prize all eventually came to pass. He goes on to discuss his recent travels to China and North Korea. He then comments on the current state of North Korea and his own work on dictators for “Parade” magazine. Wallechinsky stresses that dictators are not only found in the history books, but also there are currently seventy-two countries ruled by dictatorships. Later in the interview he discusses his plans for his upcoming work on the Olympics and his thoughts on China and its future relationships with Taiwan and the United States.
