Photographic portrait of Colonel James Joseph Ayers, ca.1880-1897. View from the chest up. He has thick dark eyebrows, a short thick curly grey and black beard and moustache, and greying dark curly hair -- thinning on top and thick in back. He is wearing a three-piece suit with bow tie. A watch fob is looped around the top button of his vest. He is turned slightly to his left. Ayers was editor of the Los Angeles Express.
