Description
This November 3, 1932, photograph shows the Saint Patrick’s Home for Children at 5945 Franklin Boulevard. The 250,000 dollar structure was dedicated on August 1, 1932, and received its first tenants three weeks later. It replaced a similar facility in Grass Valley, California, known as the Grass Valley Catholic Orphanage, which was operated by the Sisters of Mercy. Sacramento architecture luminary Harry Devine was the designer of the L-shaped, Venetian Gothic-design building. To the left foreground is the structure's chapel while to the center, and with automobile parked out front, is the administration building.
