Photo caption reads: "Los Angeles Orphanage children receiving toys distributed for Christmas by The Evening Herald and Express on December 21, 1938. Previously the children had written letters to Santa. On this day those letters were answered with presents. The trucks made the rounds of Los Angeles children's institutions and brought joy for 3996 little boys and girls, each one receiving an individual gift".
