Tom Coakley served as judge at the Mariposa County Superior Court from 1953-1969 and as Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeals from 1969 until his retirement in 1972. Prior to his legal career, he was a successful bandleader, playing with his orchestra in hotel ballrooms including the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood and the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.
Photograph dated October 16, 1962 shows Thomas Coakley, Mariposa County Superior Court judge and Republican candidate for state attorney general. Coakley ran against incumbent Democrat Stanley Mosk.
