Kay Bogendorfer Orner was born in 1909. She was president of the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission from 1953-1960, and the first female postmaster in Van Nuys, serving from 1960-1972. She died in 1991. Photograph caption dated January 12, 1961 reads "Mrs. Kay Bogendorfer, postmaster of Van Nuys, and Joseph N. Chase, president of Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce, display tiny new die which now imprints Sherman Oaks postmark on all mail deposited in post boxes within community."
