Description
The facade of the Hotel Enterprise at 914 Second St. is shown in this circa-1925 photograph. The Salvation Army hotel and employment agency are also visible. In the same building were the Eastern Restaurant, Bonini's Shaving Parlor, and Louis and Company menswear. The hotel, under the stewardship of the Salvation Army, was the subject of a January 1914 expose by the Sacramento Bee. Writer John Christan dressed the part of a ""down and outer,"" documenting the horrid living conditions within the Enterprise. Christian's piece stands as one of the first efforts within local media to capture the state of Sacramento homeless.
