Description
Father José Señán, President of the Alta California missions, informed them in 1814 that the Spanish Crown had decreed that all churches of the Empire, including the missions, should celebrate the fact that Napoleon (Spain’s adversary) had been defeated by Russia. The missions of Alta California were to celebrate this significant political event by singing a Te Deum, and with a gun salute and peal of bells.
