Machado Ranch, originally granted to Don Ygnacio Machado was known as Rancho La Ballona and consisted of 14,000 acres. A print of this image appears in the Huntington Library's Verne Dyson Collection (mssHM 26404), p. 23 (Box 3) with the caption: "Ruins of the home of Don Ignacio Machado on Rancho La Ballona."
