Description
"Schw. E. Schärf mit Annelies auf dem Esel." ("Sister E. Schärf with Annelies on the donkey."). In the center: Elise Schärf, wearing a hat, and her daughter Annelies are sitting on a donkey. Sister Schärf is holding the reins. An African boy is standing next to them watching the scene.
Elise Schärf (1892-?) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. She was a deaconess and received training not only as a nurse but also in the care of mothers and lepers. She served from 1928 for many years at the leprosy hospital in Isoko.
