Description
Plates in: California aeronautics photograph album : Dole Race and others, pg. 17. Shows Maitland and Hegenberger in San Francisco celebration. Riding in car up Market St. Policeman on motorcycle to left, camera and cameramen in car to right. Spectators line street. 2009-0510. Maitland and Hegenberger flew the first flight from Oakland and Honolulu. Took off from Oakland on June 28th, landed at Wheeler Field Hawaii June 29th. Flew U.S. Army Fokker C2-3 Bird of Paradise, a tri-motor Fokker monoplane. Upon return, San Francisco held victory celebration ending at City Hall where two awarded gold medals.
