Travel Town, an outdoor museum in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, was dedicated in 1952. The Southern Pacific Company, was willing to donate an obsolete locomotive to be the first train on exhibit. The Los Angeles City Recreation and Park Department's museum is visited each week by hundreds of youngsters and adults who are interested in the development of transportation. The focus of the museum is rail transportation, but other items are on display. Photograph caption dated July 7, 1955 reads "Coonskin caps are momentarily forgotten as tyro Casey Jones mount to platform of 50-ton steam locomotive which operates on half-mile track from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Travel Town, Griffith Park. From left are Pat Burns, 6, and Terry Beitler, Kevin Conway, Buddy Gecenok, Mike Burns And Scott Nickson."
