Description
Detailed, close-up view of a completed batik wax design on a light blue fabric. The wax is still visible indicating the design has yet to be dipped and dyed in indigo. The design will go on to become the center piece design for a baby carrier (Daim Nyias, Dlaim Hlaab Nyas). The motifs shown include hook (tus khawb) shaped fences (laj kab), which will be appliquéd with fabric. X-shaped motifs, seeds (noob), and mountains (roob) designs are visible in the background. Handwritten inscription on mat board beneath photograph reads, "Completed wax design for baby carrier (on blue fabric)." Typed label affixed beneath inscription reads, "Completed wax design on light blue fabric." Date derived from corresponding prints. Numbering on verso inconsistent. Notes on verso read: "Baby carrier #2 [handwritten pencil, upper left verso]; HMong Baby Carrier #11 (Photo 11), Lewis Judy, *HMO.4058.00* Fall 2002 [printed label, upper left verso]; HMO.
