Description
Letter to the War Relocation Authority about the assistance of Japanese Americans in the military occupation of Japan as soldiers and language bridges. The letter insists WRA's help in limiting discrimination to incarcerees returning to the West Coast, especially if they have family in the military. The collection contains material used by Carey McWilliams in writing the book, Prejudice: Japanese Americans, symbol of racial intolerance (Little, Brown, 1944). It includes U.S. War Relocation Authority records, confidential reports, bibliographies, clippings and compilations of articles, legal papers, correspondence between McWilliams and Japanese American evacuees, relocation camp newspapers and other publications, two copies of his book, and five copies of the 1994 videocassette (40 min.), Something Strong Within.
