Description
Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan stands before the "Spirit of St. Louis,", Charles Lindbergh's famous airplane, in April 1927. The photo was taken at the Ryan Airlines plant in San Diego. Corrigan worked on this plane. The individuals pictured in the photo are as follows, (left to right): O.R. McNeal (in charge of final assembly), Douglas Corrigan, Bert Tindale (shop superintendent), William Hawley Bowlus (factory manager who oversaw construction), and J.S. Morrison. The following is written on the back of the photo: "taking fuselage of Spirit of St. Louis out of the plant." Corrigan also wrote the following beside the photo: "O.R. McNeal and helper D. Corrigan has just installed the Wright J-5 engine in the "Spirit of St. Louis" N.Y. to Paris plane."
