Description
Commander Richard E. Byrd arrives at Central Station on the Gold Coast Limited on October 5, 1928. He was set to depart from Los Angeles Harbor aboard the C.E. Larsen whaling ship for his first exploration of Antarctica and the South Pole, via New Zealand. Pictured from L-R on the back of the train are: Charles Lofgren, Richard Brophy (business manager), Commander Byrd, and George O. Noville.
