Photograph caption dated October 26, 1957 reads, "Prison holds captive oil - Located at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Wayside Honor Rancho at Castaic is Texas Company's casing head gasoline refinery which converts black gold from crude oil into gasoline at rate of thousands of barrels per day. Pool of oil located beneath prison yields $100 a day in revenue to help operate prison farm. Field was discovered seven years ago and has paid off more than $3,000,000 in royalties. Oil from nearby fields is converted at this plant, nearest major facility to San Fernando Valley.
