Description
The blacksmith Hermann Crowell moved to Washington Corners in 1861 and went into blacksmithing and machine work in a big way. This included completing orders for harvesting equipment and other mechanical inventions of John M. Horner, as well as his own design for laid cylinder teeth. His two-story Italianate house was the largest in town. This house was relocated to face Union Street on the back of the same lot when the Leal Theater was built in 1922. Mr. Crowell retired in 1904 and sold his business to Thomas Tierney.
