Description
Looking east, this 1960 photograph captures a blighted section of Merchant Street, between Sixth and Seventh Streets. The thoroughfare was first called Oak Avenue, then changed to California Street sometime before 1880. It became Merchant Street during the Second World War. The faded signage of both Max's Clothing Store and Capital Glass are visible. Both businesses were no longer operating when this photograph was taken. Set behind the lamppost are the Home Apartments at 1014-and-a-half Seventh Street. In the lower, right-hand corner of the frame is the Merchants National Bank at 1015 Seventh Street.
