Description
Photograph of a Department of Public Works worker entering the Mariposa Street Siphon, 1939. At center, the foreman from San Fernando Valley is pictured wearing a safety harness as he is lowered by two other workers behind him. Chains make a grid on the slab beneath them. The rightmost man leans and rests his weight on his knees. The flow in the siphon, which was from the Glendale Outfall, was held back to allow bypass work on a 48-inch sewer line at Dayton Avenue Bridge crossing.
