Description
1989-1173. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. B, leaf 34. A bird's eye view of a scene; in the foreground is an empty two block square or perhaps a park; the tops of a few trees are seen on the bottom edge; in the lower right corner is a street running into the photo; on this street cars are parked on both sides; along this street are four homes and then taller buildings; on the side of one taller building is a sign "HEALD'S CAP. CITY COLLEGE"; in the middle distance on the far side of the lot / park is a street with a church on it, indicated by the church tower and next to it a long low two-storey building; On the right in the middle distance is a sign identifying the Capital National Bank; the view extends to the horizon line. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Picture taken from the Capitol Building, showing the old Baptist Church on 9th street, corner-stone of which was laid August 20th, 1877, building torn down shortly after this picture was taken.
