Title supplied by cataloger.; The original photographic print is a reproduction. Actor George Mann (1905-1977) grew up in Silver Lake and moved to Santa Monica as a teenager with his parents. Starting out as a vaudevillian in the mid-1920s, Mann performed with various groups, with the USO during WWII, and held small parts in several movies. Mann took approximately 12,000 B&W photographs during his years in vaudeville, and in the early 1950s, he designed a 3-D viewer for his 3-D photographs, mostly taken around Southern California. He made arrangements to lease the viewers to various Los Angeles businesses, including restaurants, bars and doctor's offices. Every couple of weeks, George would swap out the photos of such tourist destinations as Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Pacific Ocean Park, Watts Towers, Catalina Island, and Palm Springs. In the early 1970s, George was hired by Quaker Oats to portray King Vitaman in both commercials and on the front of the cereal box. This series represents the images Mann took of Bunker Hill homes in the 1960s.; All of the buildings shown have since been demolished.; Angels flight operated from 1901 until it was closed in 1969 when its location was redeveloped. The railway was relocated and reassembled at California Plaza in March of 1995, and closed again on February of 2001 after a serious accident resulted in the death of a passenger, and the injuries of seven others. The accident occurred when the ascending Sinai cable car suddenly reversed direction and uncontrollably accelerated downhill and struck the Olivet cable car near the lower terminus. The second funicular still exists and reopened in 2010. Angels Flight Railway was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 13, 2000, structure #00001168.
