On August 28, 1963 thousands of American gathered in Washington D.C. for a political rally known as the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom." The rally was organized by civil and religious groups to reveal the political and social injustices African Americans faced across the country. The rally became a key moment in the growing struggle for civil rights in the United States. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I have a Dream' speech was one of the most memorable moments of the event. Photograph caption dated August 29, 1963 reads, "Campers made signs and paraded around camp grounds to proclaim they want 'freedom now.' Children from the Haskell's Raskells Day Camp in North Hollywood decided to have their own 'Rights March' to support the 'March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom' rally going on in Washington D.C.
