Originally known as the Hebrew Sheltering Home for the Aged, the Jewish Home for the Aging was founded in Boyle Heights in 1912. About four years later, the Home's first permanent facility was built on Boyle Avenue, where it existed for decades. In 1967, acreage in Reseda was purchased and a facility was built on Victory Boulevard. A merger in 1979 with the Menorah Village created a second campus on Tampa Avenue in Reseda. Photograph caption dated May 29, 1956 reads, "Samuel E. Willen, center, president of California Home for Aged in Reseda congratulates Mrs. Vrena Rosenkranz, one of home's principal supporters, and Abraham Slopkoff, 93, on selection as Mother and Father of Year. Pair were selected at combined Mother's and Father's Day party this weekend. Slopkoff is one of home's two surviving founders."
