36 students and one teacher from Bret Harte Elementary School stare into the camera lens for this postcard from circa 1932. Named for one of California’s most famous authors, the school opened in 1923 at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Franklin Boulevard. By 1927, there were 639 students enrolled handled by 22 teachers.
