"Station Beröa." ("Station Berea."). In the foreground a road, a two-wheeled carriage with a man sitting on it and two horses in front of it. Next to the carriage on the right one man of European, one of African origin and a woman of European origin. To the left one man and one woman holding an infant, probably all of African origin. Next to the African woman a big church building with a cross on the top of the front side. Behind the church and to the right two houses. Trees behind them on the right side and mountains in the background. Imprinted on the image: "Beröa. Süd-Afrika. West. No. 409." ("Berea. South Africa. West. No. 409."). Cf. photo no. 1708. -- Photo no. 1708 shows the view from a longer distance and a slightly different perspective. -- On the right side of the picture a black triangle, probably a piece of cloth that flew in front of the camera while shooting the picture. It was tried to retouch it partly with white color or to partly scratch it out. -- Berea was an out-station of Genadendal.
