Photograph was edited for publication purposes Lammot du Pont Copeland, Jr. is the great great-grandson of Eleuthere Irenee Du Pont. Du Pont was the founder of the gunpowder and chemical manufacturing company and head of one of the wealthiest families in the United States. In 1970, after acquiring several California newspapers, Lammot Copeland, Jr. filed the biggest personal bankruptcy action in U.S. history, forcing the shutdown of the Valley Times Newspaper. Photograph caption dated October 22, 1963 reads "New owner." The article partially reads "Lammot Copeland Jr. is the owner of the Valley Times and president of Great Western Publishing Co. Inc., its affiliate. Copeland said today he is seriously concerned over the 'general deterioration of standards and of the alarming lack of good moral principles in many phases of our lives today.'"
