Description
Image of people walking along the Santa Monica Municipal Pier at right and the Santa Monica Amusement Pier at left in Santa Monica, California. Visible on the pier are the Whirlwind Dipper roller coaster, Looff Hippodrome, and the La Monica Ballroom. With visible signs including "Whirlwind Dipper," "The Overlook Hotel & Apts., "La Monica Ballroom Auto Park," and "La Monica School of Dancing."
This is a copy negative (a photograph of another photograph). Title devised by cataloger. Date devised by cataloger based on the Santa Monica Pier history; the Whirlwind Dipper roller coaster and La Monica Ballroom where built in 1924. The Looff family sold the Looff Pleasure Pier to the Santa Monica Amusement Company in 1924, and the name of the pleasure pier was changed to the Santa Monica Amusement Pier at that time.
