Image shows front-facing, full-length portrait of James Frederick Dawson (1874-1941), landscape architect with the Olmsted brothers (1896-1940) and member of the Palos Verdes Art Jury. Mr. Dawson is shown standing on steps in east porch of the Gardner Building in Malaga Cove Plaza. A graduate of Harvard University (1896) where his father, Jackson Thornton Dawson, was superintendent of the Arnold Arboretum, Mr. Dawson made the first report of the layout of Palos Verdes Ranch for Frank Vanderlip in 1914.
