Photograph caption dated February 13, 1964 reads, "Joseph Kaplan, left, general manager of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Safety Council, discusses plans for safety essay competition with Murray Rosenfeld, executive vice president of Pep Boys chain. This is 12th year Pep Boys has sponsored contest, with a four-year engineering scholarship to a California college or university as first prize. Entry blanks are available at senior high schools throughout Los Angeles area."
